Please stop staring

Please stop staring at me. I know you’re just a child, clearly you don’t know any better, yet why don’t your parents say something?  I could try to be polite, I should try to be polite, after all I am the adult and you the child, but I tired of this cycle.  I’m tired of being on the receiving end of quiet whispers that are far from subtle.  I’m tired of the obnoxious and rude attempts to reposition where…

Progress on New Product

I have been quite busy working to develop a product that I hope will be a direct benefit to many of my readers.  My Poland Syndrome affects my right hand.  I have only 2 fingers on my right hand (thumb and pinky) and as a result, limited functionality.  I can do many things, with grabbing and holding items firmly is not one of them. As a result, grasping a vegetable peeler to peel a potato or a carrot has been…

Being Part of the Solution

It’s so easy to complain, isn’t it?  After all, complaining comes so naturally to us.  I’ve never had to teach and of my four children how to complain or how to be ungrateful.  I could give one child a heaping bowl of popcorn, but if his brother has 2 kernels more, all of a sudden his is discontent. Often, not always, those who have the most “legitimate” reasons to complain instead are the most grateful and contented people.  I am…

Technology Won’t Solve the Problem

I have seen an influx to my Facebook feed lately of various folks sporting their new mechanical arms/hands.  Technology is truly amazing, and it is exciting to see what is available today for the everyday person that was but a concept 30 years ago.  The functionality these devices provide for those with limb differences is nothing short of marvelous. Yet, with every new article and picture posted I am reminded that these innovations alone won’t “solve the problem,” because the…

Gracious Response – No Surprise

While I didn’t expect a response so quickly (see previous post), the content of the response was of no surprise.  The very next morning I woke up to this text: First, good morning.  Second, I have things to say.  Thank you for sharing with me; I feel honored to be allowed to know you better.  Third, I’m processing. Will be in touch.   Within a week I shared the book with another friend; a friend with whom I have had…
